Day 3 - Seligman, Arizona

We motored straight to Seligman on I40. We are participating in a "Fun Run" from Seligman to Topock on sponsored by the Arizona Route 66 Organization. There are expecting over 700 cars. We arrived in Seligman on May 4th. They town was virtually deserted. We were surprised to see tour bus's stop for about 30 minutes then leave. Soon another one would arrive. We stayed in a vintage motel. It was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend it to any one passing through Seligman.

The town consists of several motels and gift shops. A couple of restaurants and a gas station. Angel and Juan Delgadillo are credited with the renewed interest in Route 66 preservation. Angel had a Barber Shop in town and his brother, Juan, owned the Snow Cap Drive-in. Angel no longer cuts hair and his shop is now a gift store. Mike and I walked down to the Snow Cap and ordered ice cream. Juan has pass on and his son still runs the diner. I was the perfect experience for me. They brought laughter to all customers. Juan's son offered me a diet ice cream cone. Half the calories.....

The other employee asked me if I wanted a cone for the road....

We stopped at Angel's gift shop and his original barber chair is still there.

When we got back to the motel we met our new neighbors. Tommy, Diane, and Lee Thomas. We walked down to the Roadkill café for supper and spent the evening together. We sat outside and chatted until bed time. It was like we knew they forever. Mike and Tommy had a lot of the same interests. Tommy even plays the guitar! I am adding pictures from the two days we had with them. Bob and Sherran Doobovsky arrived on Friday. We all went to lunch, dinner, walked the town from one end to the other. They next evening we were having dinner and I heard Tommy mention he worked for T. W. Lewis doing construction. Mike asked him if he knew my cousin's husband, Chris Henderson, and Tommy fell back in his chair and was speechless. He immediately asked me if I had Chris's phone number. He worked with Chris and they were friends. I sent my cousin Alesha a picture of them and they were excited that we were with them.

We sat outside with Bob and Sherran while Tommy and Lee were unloading their car from their trailer.
That night some of the cars drove up and down Route 66. Bob road with Mike and I took pictures.
