Rockland, Rockport and Camden Maine

Image
We spent one night in Portland then went north to Rockport.  We are going to stay in this newly remodeled hotel room for 5 nights.  Awesome view from our deck.  August 2nd, we will attend the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, which is only 2 miles away. We toured the neighboring cities and saw beautiful scenery and homes.  Most of the house look like they have been added to and are connected to their garage and even barns. There was an awesome art work made out of railroad ties. We usually think of Blues and Jazz enjoyed in the southern states.   House surrounded by lobster traps. We saw this huge museum and it said Knox Museum.  I had Mike convinced that is was the Knox gelatin mansion.  I googled it and it was George Washington's right hand man and was in the boat with him when he crossed the Deleware.  Of course, it was closed the day we were there. There was a schooner in the harbor that was called the "Mary Day."

Trapp Family Lodge

Top of my bucket list.....check View from our room.  The view is ever changing.  It has its own personality! We went on a Von Trapp Family History tour.  It was very interesting.  The movie, Sound of Music used poet license and change a few of the facts.  The first born in the movie was a Girl, Liesel and the first born in real life was a boy.  Maria did not go their to be governess of all the kids.  Just tutor for one of the children that did not recover her strength after having scarlet fever.  We toured the family cemetery.  We ate in the main dining room and when we got back to our room, they had turned down the bed. Really nice bathroom!

Lake Placid, New York

We travelled from Niagra Falls to Lake Placid, New York.  It was not in our itinerary, but then again, we do not really have one.  We were heading towards Maine and saw that Lake Placid was just a little way off our path.  So....side trip! We stayed at the Lake House overlooking Mirror Lake. Our room was rustic with a beautiful view. We toured the town and ate at a brewery. Again, we walked over 2 miles.  The next day we toured the Olympic Center.  The 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics were held at Lake Placid. On the way out of town to Trapp Family Lodge, we went to the Olympic Ski area and took the tram to the top.  I do not like heights.  Freaked me out.  Mike loved it. Not loving it!!!

Niagra Falls, Ontario

We left for Niagra Falls on Saturday, July 22, 2017.  Chris and Tracy jokingly say that we are taking their honeymoon.  It truly is worth going to.  Love Love Loved, it.  Below are our first views of the falls.  The first one is from our room. They call the below area a "Horseshoe" We watched a 4 D movie and learned how the falls was created.  I think the 4th D was that you were rained on and sprayed with water. Then we went on the Journey Behind the Falls.  We took an elevator down and walked on man made tunnels.  When we looked out, all we saw was a wall of water. Then we came to another tunnel and we could see the falls. We followed another tunnel and walked out on to a balcony.  The road of the falls was awesome. I kept on my blue raincoat from our previous 4D adventure.  You can see the USS Hornblower on the water.  We took the boat the next morning.   If you look very closely, you can see the boat in the mist.
