First Week at the Box R Ranch

Image
Every day, we see wild animals.  These are Mule Deer that come to graze in the yard. The Box R used to take people out hunting.  They were Outfitters.  The walls of the lodge and cabins are covered with trophys.  These are in the dining room.  Please don't notice the stuff on the tables.  We are deep cleaning the pantry and stacking the stuff on the tables. This is in the living room in the Lodge.  I need to go outside to see where the rest of it is. There is snow in the mountains surrounding us.  I was getting one of the cabins ready for guests, when I saw this beautiful scene and had to stop to go get the camera.  See the bird on the antlers?  Also, the cattle in the background.  Mike helped spay around 200 cows the other day.  He was covered with calf poo splaters.  I wish I would of taken the camera to record that!

Made it to the Box R

Image
We made it to the Box R and it is unbelievable. Almost 2,000 acres attached to Wyoming Wilderness and Bridger National Forest. This is from "just on top of the hill" We have 5 resident moose that live here. This one usually shows up every morning to eat. Irv said that there was about 18 that lived here but the wolves have killed all but 5. There are thousands of Pronghorn Antelope that live here. They are usually in the road when you go anywhere. We unloaded about 30 head of horses Friday night and we will unload about 30 more tonight (Saturday). Total will be about 100 horses and 180 head of cattle by next weekend. And much to our SURPRISE we woke up to snow this morning And we don't know when we will have access to the internet so it may be a week before we can update, but keep looking for more amazing pictures and update on the "Days of Our Lives"

Fishing in Pinedale

Image
Mike purchased a Wyoming fishing license today and we went to two different lakes fishing.  The fish either died over the winter, or they are sleeping deep down. We did not even see a ripple on the surface.   Fremont lake is 600 feet deep.  The lakes still have ice on them.  We did stop at a cowboy apparel store and by a winter coat for me and one for Mike.  They have all their winter clothes on sale. Mike and I had on long sleeve shirts and jackets and the "locals" were wearing shorts and sleeveless tops.  Is that snow on the shore??  Mike misses his Colorado fishing buddies!! We drove up the road until we could not go any further. This was over 9,000 feet. On the way back down the mountain, we saw Mule Deer.  The landscape is strewn with rocks left by the glacier.  If you remember your history of farming in the midwest, the farmers had to remove rocks from their fields.  Could you image trying to clear a field here? I think that the Mule Deer look kangaroos.

Pinedale, Wyoming

Image
We arrived in Pindale, Wyoming where we will stay until we move up to the ranch. The Box R Ranch is 23 miles from here. The road into the ranch is 8 miles of gravel. We drove up to the ranch and Irv, the owner was there. The ranch does not have the utilities on yet and won't officially be open until June. The wranglers and cook will be arriving tomorrow to get settled in. We can bring the motorhome there sometime next week. You will have to check out the blog as spring moves into summer and see the hills turn green. We got to explore the ranch buildings. Totally awesome.   There were antelope everywhere. Irv said they also have moose. There used to be 18 moose living on the ranch, but with the introduction of wolves about 20 years ago, they are down to 5. If you click on the pictures, you can enlarge them.  On the way back to the campground, it began to snow. Tomorrow we will tour Pinedale and the area and buy a winter coat for Deb.

Utah to Wyoming

Image
We left Wahweap Campground, located on Lake Powell yesterday.  Traveling 147 miles to St. George, Ut, we spent the night then headed for Wyoming.  We traveled through the mountains and were amazed of the snow on the mountains.  When we were south of Salt Lake City, we saw the biggest mountain of the trip.  I googled Nephi, Ut and found a web site http://www.city-map.com/ and it has all the information we were looking for.  Population, demographics and featured a couple of businesses.  While I was surfing, I put in Moline.  They featured two businesses and one of them was my hair dresser, Michele's on Avenue of the Quad Cities.  Cool.  I had to call Michele and tell her.  The mountain that we saw was Mt. Nebo. We turned west on I80 at Salt Lake City.  This was the first thing we saw.  More snow and mountains. We stopped at a lookout about 30 miles from where we spent the night.  We have not been out of the sight of snow since we left St. George.

Friend Meet At Wahweap

Image
Bob and Sherran Doobovsky met us on their way to California.  They came to Page, AZ and stayed at the Wahweap Campground by us.  The day that they arrived we took them to see Horseshoe Bend.  It was a good thing went then because the next day we had strong winds.  We would of been blown off the edge. We had planned on going siteseeing on Tuesday and take a picnic lunch.  The wind was gusting to over 40 miles an hour.  We at lunch in the motorhome and then watched a movie. We had dinner together and then watched another movie.  It was a fun relaxing time.  We convoyed to St. George, Utah on Wednesday and parked next to two awesome trucks.

Wahweap Campground

We moved from Page to Wahweap. Wahweap is part of the Glen Canyon National Park and it has a campground, a boat launch and a hotel. The boat launch is called Stateline Boat Launch because it is literally on the state line of Arizona and Utah. Nice park. These are the only pictures that I have so far but I am sure there will be more. Tomorrow may be completely different!!!!

Glen Canyon, Lone Rock and Horseshoe Bend

Image
These 3 areas are absolutely beauitiful. Horseshoe Bend and Glen Canyon are in Arizona. Lone Rock is in Utah. Horseshoe Bend is an overlook, which means you have to walk about 3/4 of a mile through the desert to see it. It is worth the walk there but the walk back is a little long. Those small blimps on the water are rafts with about 10 people in them. As we watched there was quite a few of these rafts and canoes going down the river. By the way this is the Colorado River. All of a sudden some "chick" gets in the camera shot. We watched the river for a while and watched the people taking pictures over the edge of the canyon. The view is straight down with no hope of survival if you fall. Most of the visitors are from Europe, so the speech is in different languages, kind of strange. Glen Canyon is a dam on the Colorado with a really neat visitor center. There is an outside platform to take pictures. Its a long way down!! The bridge over the river seems
