Mount Rushmore


This is the model that they used to carve Mt. Rushmore.  They ran out of money before they  finished.  Notice that Abe  is holding his labels. and George and Thomas have coats.  The sculptor, Gutzon Borglum went to Chicago to raise money, but unfortunately died.  Notice Abraham Lincoln's hand in the picture below, it is only his knuckles.

Every where we go, I offer to take pictures of people so that all the family can be in the picture.  A young couple insisted in taking a picture of us. 


The used dynamite to blast within 3 inches of the face, then gradually smaller tools to finish the detailing.  I was impressed with the drill marks on the rocks at the foot of the mounument.

Chris LeDoux Memorial Broncs & Barrels

Friday night, they held a Memorial Rodeo in the honor of Chris LeDoux.  Chris and Peggy LeDoux's daughter, Cindy, did barrel racing.  Casey LeDoux, who is 4 years old also ran the barrels.  Actually, Cindy ran, and Casey rode. Beau LeDoux, the youngest son, did bronco riding. Beau stayed on the entire ride.  Awesome!

Lake Placid, New York

We travelled from Niagra Falls to Lake Placid, New York.  It was not in our itinerary, but then again, we do not really have one.  We were heading towards Maine and saw that Lake Placid was just a little way off our path.  So....side trip! We stayed at the Lake House overlooking Mirror Lake. Our room was rustic with a beautiful view. We toured the town and ate at a brewery. Again, we walked over 2 miles.  The next day we toured the Olympic Center.  The 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics were held at Lake Placid. On the way out of town to Trapp Family Lodge, we went to the Olympic Ski area and took the tram to the top.  I do not like heights.  Freaked me out.  Mike loved it. Not loving it!!!
