Maine Lobester Festival in Rockland

Image
Another item crossed off my bucket list....Rockland Maine Lobster Festival.  I was in bed and could hear fog horns.  I thought to myself that it must be the fishing fleet celebrating the harvest of lobsters for the fest.  I looked out the window, and they really were using their for horns for the fog..... We were there the first day of the Festival.  The  crowd was not as big as it will be on the weekend. We toured all the tents and then got in line for a lobster dinner.  They steam 750 lobsters at a time, so the line moved pretty fast. We waited in line and chatted with people.  There was only one person I talked to that was from Maine.   They are soft shelled, so just rip into them and squeeze em! They are so ugly, but so good!

Port Clyde

After visiting the Transportation Museum, we went to Port Clyde for a late lunch.  It is a little sea side town.  We had fresh halibut and scallops.  Yumm  I am saving myself for the Lobster Fest the next day. Can you believe $5.78 per pound

Owls Head

We began our day at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.  When we paid for our entry, they told us a B17 would be landing around noon.  Mike told them that we had been inside a B17 in Mesa.  They told us that it was the same plane, Sentimental Journey.  Cool.  It flew from Mesa to Owls Head Maine. The museum was a treasure trove of cars, planes, motorcycles, Steam engines, gyspy wagons.  This has not been restored.  Before.... This has been restored. After.... A very ornate fire steamer. A flying machine....The wings had chicken feathers on them. There were several planes. And over 100 cars.... I will have to let Mike pick a few. (More to be posted later!)

Rockland, Rockport and Camden Maine

We spent one night in Portland then went north to Rockport.  We are going to stay in this newly remodeled hotel room for 5 nights.  Awesome view from our deck.  August 2nd, we will attend the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, which is only 2 miles away. We toured the neighboring cities and saw beautiful scenery and homes.  Most of the house look like they have been added to and are connected to their garage and even barns. There was an awesome art work made out of railroad ties. We usually think of Blues and Jazz enjoyed in the southern states.   House surrounded by lobster traps. We saw this huge museum and it said Knox Museum.  I had Mike convinced that is was the Knox gelatin mansion.  I googled it and it was George Washington's right hand man and was in the boat with him when he crossed the Deleware.  Of course, it was closed the day we were there. There was a schooner in the harbor that wa...
